But who were those Williams? It's a bit difficult to tell, because of all the various names of fathers/sons being the same.
Let's go back from Richard Frederick Williams' birth. He has 2 census records where he states he was born in KY. Unfortunately, they don't say county names.
I've just discovered the following information is not factual, though it has been on my (and other's) Ancestry Trees for years..
His family could not have been from this line of Williams, as they lived in SC and TN, and nowhere near Kentucky. I'll include the story about these other Williams, which most of my cousins on Ancestry believe to be our ancestors...but they must be some other people.
His father was (NOT) Frederick Andrew Williams. Saxe-Gotha Township, South Carolina was his birthplace. It no longer exists, but here's a great little history of it (Link Here.) Orangeburg County has a detailed history which would have reflected upon his parents' generation HERE. written in 1898!
Frederick Andrews's wife was
Cassandra Elizabeth "Cassiah" Tate WILLIAMS
1765–1851
BIRTH 1765 • North Carolina, United States
DEATH 1851 • Bradley, Tennessee; Buried in Benton TN
Their grave markers are at Friendship Baptist Church near Benton TN.
Not the original marker for Cassandra Tate Williams |
Friendship Baptist Church was established June 8, 1826, only seven years after the Indians were removed from the area under the Hiwassee Cession of 1819.That makes Friendship the oldest church in what is now known as Polk Co., Tn.
Frederick Williams, was the father in law to the first pastor of the church, Samual Short.
I'm leaving this lovely little family for now, and cutting the cord that connects them to Richard Frederick Williams. I'd like to have Frederick Andrew as his father (the names make sense) but the geography just doesn't jive.
