My own life and my opinions are shared at When I was 69.

REMEMBER: In North America, the month of September 1752 was exceptionally short, skipping 11 days, when the Gregorian Calendar was adapted from the old Julian one, which didn't have leap year days.

Elizabeth Ufford Beers - 7 times great grandmother

Born April 3,1698, died before Sept 19, 1783

We looked at my great times 7 grandmother last January 2018 HERE.

But today I just found a link to the microfilm of her will.  Let's see what that tells us about her life.

First she made sure her daughter Ruth, (who could not care for herself,) would have guardians as well as support by land and household.  She wanted her sons Samuel and Abner to provide for Ruth the rest of her life.  She also appointed Samuel and Abner to be executors of her estate.

The will of Sept 20, 1779 was written as a final will, thus there may have been earlier ones.  The probate occurred as of Sept 24, 1783, 4 years after the date of the will.  The inventory was carried out in 1783 and completed by Oct. 10 by James Booth and James Wells, sworn (unsure of their title, perhaps appraisers)

Of the sons who were asked to be executors, both were still living in 1783 and in Stratford, Fairfield County. I haven't found any relative of the Booths named James, though her daughter Elizabeth Beers Booth did marry Zachariah Booth. So the appraiser, James Booth, could have been a more distant relative of the family.  Stratford CT had a lot of Booths living there in the late eighteenth century.

But back to the Beers family in Stratford.  I talked about the town of Stratford and Elizabeth Ufford Beers' husband Josiah  HERE.

Grandmother Beers had only sons Samuel and Abner still living in Stratford at the time of her death. Where had her other sons gone?

According to the Gazetteer and Business Directors of Thompkins County, NY for 1868, the founders of Danby, Thompkins, NY included several Beers.  How many were children of Elizabeth Ufford Beers?  Steven for one (a son of Elizabeth U. Beers, or maybe a son of Abner's.) Who was Dr. Lewis Beers who came in 1797? Not a son of Elizabeth apparently, but who was his "eldest brother"?  Abner who had the first store in Danby might have been a son of Elizabeth, but was more likely as a grandson. Who was Jabez Beers?  See the article below.

Going backward (which ancestry often does) Jabez (1763-1834) was the oldest son of Abner Beers. Though his father remained in Stratford, Jabez went with other Beers men to NY and started the settlement of Danby.

Lewis Beers (1768-1849) was also a son of Abner. But he could hardly have led settlers to Danby in 1779,  when he was only 11.  He might have become a Dr. later in life.  But I'll be looking for an uncle of his.

However, this is carrying me off in another tangent. Whoa, Barb.  Let's see if Grandmother Beers had any more information...

Though she lived to be 85 years old, she had 5 adult children who outlived her. Unfortunately my grandmother, her daughter Elizabeth Beers Booth predeceased her by dying in 1780.
