Events of importance are at Living in Black Mountain NC
My own life and my opinions are shared at When I was 69.

REMEMBER: In North America, the month of September 1752 was exceptionally short, skipping 11 days, when the Gregorian Calendar was adapted from the old Julian one, which didn't have leap year days.

Ah ha, the joke's not on me! More on the Whitlows!

I had to hang my head the other day, once again having chased down relations on that branch of my family tree, who just plum fell off.
Now there's a much more fun story to tell, thank heavens.

Yesterday I mentioned that the Rogers descended from Henry Othello Whitlow (what an interesting name!)

His father was my 7th great grandfather...

William WHITLOW, Jr

1690–1768

Birth 1690 Farrars Island, Henrico, Virginia,

Death 1768 Goochland, Virginia

and his mother was...

Martha FARRAR WHITLOW

1690–1768

Birth 1690 Farrars Island, Henrico, Virginia,

Death 1768 Goochland, Virginia

These great grandparents were both born on Farrar's Island, Henrico County, Virginia, but died in Goochland County, VA.

Farrars Island has a historical marker...

It says...
"In 1611, Farrar's Island was the site of the "Citie of Henrico." one of Virginia's first four primary settlement areas under the Virginia Company of London.  Later, it was part of a 2,000-acre land patent issued posthumously to William Farrar in 1637.  Farrar, who arrive in virginia from London in 1618 aboard the Neptune, invested in the company under its third charter.  in 1626, Governor Sir George Yeardley appointed Farrar to the governor's Council, a position he occupied until 1632. He also served as a justice for two counties.  Farrar family members resided on the island until they sold it to Thomas Randolph on 26 Jan 1727.
Incidentally,  the William Farrar who received the 2,000 acre land
patent was Martha Farrar Whitlow's great grandfather.
Her father was...

Major William FARRAR III,

1657–1721

Birth 1657 Farrar's Island, Henrico County, Virginia, Colony

Death 3 APRIL 1721 Farrar's Island, Henrico County, Virginia Colony

But he wouldn't have received the land posthumously in 1637, so it must have been his father:

Col. William FARRAR II

1626–1678

Birth 1626 Farrars Island, Henrico, Virginia, USA

Death 1 FEB 1678 Charles City, Henrico, Virginia, USA

No, must have been the first of that name...

William FARRAR I

1600–1635

Birth ABT. 1600 England

Death 1635 Farrar Island, Henrico County, Virginia

Enter the map! Look for highlighted area in the midst of James River curving around!

(Thanks to ancestry on-line members who actually don't mind sharing good information about our great grand-folks we have in common.)

And here's an 1853 version...
I got diverted (again) by all the wealth of materials...so I'll tell you my surprise information about the Farrar's tomorrow.  It's kind of fun...though not historically earth shattering.

Today's quote:

In a world where we have routines to get everything done, we rarely have a routine for our spiritual self.
